I have had an LG Quantum and a Samsung Focus since the launch Microsoft’s latest mobile operating system last Fall. The OS was fair and had some nice concepts but felt a little light compared to my iPhone 4 and an Android I had previously owned.
The announcement of Mango or Windows Phone 7.5 was welcome and today 9/27 Microsoft and the carriers finally started rolling out the update to users.
I checked a handful of times and read a post on the Windows phone team blog that stated they would push to 10% of users and ramp to 98% within 4 weeks. I was a little disappointed as the new features and some of the reviews I had seen I was eager to get a taste of. I was hoping since I was one of the first adopters and purchased the week of the launch I might be included.
After checking in the AM and then again later this evening without the update notice I started poking around the net. Gizmofusion.com had a nice quick forced update check that I can confirm is working (will let you know if the entire process is successful on both phones). You can read the full post here.
Or here is a quick and dirty walkthrough….
- Connect Phone to PC and launch Zune software
- Go to Phone>Settings>Update…
- If your software states there is an update available – then proceed if not…
- Click on any other menu item then click on Update again – after 1 second disconnect your ethernet cable or disable your wireless connection on your desktop or laptop.
- Wait 30 seconds about and voila! The update should appear.
If not repeat step 4. Mine found the update the first attempt and is currently @ 78% installation.
Thanks Gizmofusion!
